Postural Hypotension
Dizziness, light-headedness, or feeling faint can be distressing and may affect confidence when mobilising. One possible cause is postural hypotension, where blood pressure falls on standing, leading to symptoms such as unsteadiness or near-fainting.
Symptoms may include:
- Dizziness when standing up or changing position
- Feeling faint or light-headed
- Blurred vision
- General weakness or fatigue
- Episodes of near-fainting or falls
There are many possible contributing factors, including:
- Dehydration or reduced fluid intake
- Side effects of medications, particularly blood pressure tablets or diuretics
- Acute illness or infection
- Neurological or cardiovascular conditions
- Age-related changes in blood pressure regulation
